Wendy J. Freitag, Ph.D. | President

Wendy J. Freitag, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Wauwatosa, WI. She has a general practice, serving adults with trauma, anger, and grief issues as well as specializes in performance enhancement and coaching. She also conducts both group and individual consultation for EMDR clinicians at all levels of credentialing. Dr. Freitag served on the EMDRIA Board for 8 years in the positions of President, Secretary and as a Director. She is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, Credit Provider and Regional Coordinator, and EMDR Institute Facilitator and Logistician. During her tenure on the Board she served on several EMDRIA committees and chaired the task group dealing with EMDR educational programs and the professional development of EMDR clinicians. After leaving Board service, she continued to chair the administrative task group responsible for the development of the new Basic Training Curriculum requirements. Dr. Freitag was the Francine Shapiro Award recipient in 2004.

Scott Blech, CAE | Secretary

Scott has led local, state and international associations during his 35-year career in association management. He retired in 2012 after leading EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) as Executive Director for 8 years; during his tenure EMDRIA started its professional journal and the EMDR Research Foundation. Scott has served in leadership positions with several professional, civic and charitable organizations.

Scott has a B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan and a M.A. with honors from the University of Missouri. He received his Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives.

Jim Gach, M.S.W.

Jim Gach is a retired clinical social worker. His Social Work career included work in Child Protective Services, Sexual Offender Work, substance abuse work at the Veteran’s Administration and private practice specializing in trauma and sexual abuse issues.

Jim was trained in EMDR in 1994 and became an EMDE Institute Facilitator in 1999 and a HAP facilitator in 2005.  He served six years on the EMDRIA Board  and ten years on the EMDR Research Foundation Board. He returned in 2017 to serve on the Foundation Board again.

He is a Vietnam era Navy veteran and part-time musician.

Barbara Hensley, Ed.D.

Barbara J. Hensley, is a Clinical Counselor in Cincinnati, Ohio and a Board-Certified Diplomate for the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.  She served on the EMDR International Association Board of Directors as president and treasurer and has represented EMDRIA in Stockholm, Sweden and Brussels, Belgium. She is an EMDRIA-Certified Therapist, and Approved Consultant, and Regional Coordinator for the Greater Cincinnati Regional Network. For the past sixteen years, she has been a facilitator and logistician for EMDR trainings in Japan and throughout the United States. Dr. Hensley is the creator of the Francine Shapiro Library, an online resource of EMDR research and writings. She is also the 2009 recipient of the distinguished Francine Shapiro Award for her extraordinary service and contributions to EMDR. Dr. Hensley is the co-founder of the Cincinnati Trauma Connection in Cincinnati, Ohio, an EMDR-based trauma center and the author of An EMDR Primer: From Practicum to Practice.

Katy Murray, MSW, LICSW

Katy Murray is a Licensed Independent and Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work in Olympia, WA. She received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington in 1982 and was trained in EMDR in 1996. An EMDRIA Certified clinician, Katy has a general clinical practice with adults, with specialties in trauma related disorders, chemical dependency, and psycho-oncology. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, she provides individual and group consultation to new and seasoned therapists, assisting in the effective integration of EMDR therapy into clinical practice. She is a Trauma Recovery/HAP trainer, the EMDR Institute’s Internet Discussion Listserv Moderator, and an EMDR Institute facilitator.  Katy serves on the editorial board of the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research and as an EMDRIA Regional Coordinator in Southwest Washington.  In the past she served on the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee and served as the lead clinician with the Lifeforce Integrated Trauma Treatment Research pilot study evaluating EMDR in treating trauma in drug dependent clients.

Susan Rogers, Ph.D.

Susan Rogers is a clinical psychologist from Pennsylvania. She recently retired from a 25 year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs where she specialized in the treatment of combat-related PTSD. She is an Approved Consultant and has provided EMDR trainings in the US and overseas for the EMDR Institute, The EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs, the US Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. She has authored/co-authored several articles and a book on EMDR and has served on the EMDRIA Research Committee and the editorial board of the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research. She has received the Snyker and Shapiro awards for her contributions to EMDR.

Zona Scheiner, Ph.D.

Zona Scheiner, Ph.D. received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in the Combined Program of Education and Psychology. Since that time, her career has been varied, starting as a Professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York, working as a School Psychologist for the Ann Arbor Public Schools, developing and coordinating programs in Child and Family Therapy for various Community Mental Health Organizations and for the last 30  years in full time private practice with Family Therapy Associates of Ann Arbor.  In 2004, she co-founded  the EMDR Resource Center of Michigan.  The EMDR Resource Center has been an active provider of specialty presentations and EMDR Basic Trainings in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area since its inception. Dr. Scheiner’s professional time is organized around teaching, practicing and consulting in EMDR.  Her enthusiasm led her to 7 years on the EMDRIA Board of Directors, ending in her Presidency.  Her belief that the practice of EMDR is based on solid research led her to the Board of the EMDR Research Foundation where she has served since 2009.

David Sherwood, Ph.D.

David Sherwood, Ph.D. received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duke University in 1969. He has worked in various clinical and administrative capacities in the Dutchess County Department of Mental Hygiene in Poughkeepsie, NY. He retired in 2013 from a 30 year clinical practice, and now resides in Massachusetts. He has been active in the EMDR community, having served as Board member and Secretary of the EMDR International Association. Prior to that he served on the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee and as a Regional Coordinator and Chair of the Regional Coordinating committee. An EMDRIA Certified Clinician and Approved Consultant, he is currently training as a Facilitator for the Trauma Recovery--EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program. He received EMDRIA’s Outstanding Regional Coordinator Award in 2001, and the Outstanding Contribution and Service Award in 2004.

David Sherwood
Rosalie Thomas, R.N., Ph.D.

Rosalie Thomas, R.N., Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in Washington State. She has retired from an active clinical practice and now offers consultation and training in EMDR. Rosalie has been actively involved with the EMDR community, serving as Board Member, Treasurer and President of the EMDR International Association. She is an EMDRIA Certified Clinician and Approved Consultant and currently chairs the EMDRIA conference committee. Rosalie is also a facilitator and trainer for the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program, and facilitator for trainings given by the EMDR Institute. She has participated in training programs throughout the United States, Japan, Bangladesh, and India. In 2006, Dr. Thomas was the recipient of an award for Special Recognition of her leadership in EMDRIA and she was the recipient of the Francine Shapiro Award in 2007.
