Be Part of the Solution!

Every breakthrough in EMDR therapy begins with research — and that research begins with people who believe healing is possible. The EMDR Research Foundation relies on the generosity of donors to advance the science, effectiveness, and accessibility of EMDR therapy for individuals, families, and communities worldwide.

Your support directly funds randomized controlled research studies that strengthen evidence-based practice, expand clinical knowledge, improve early intervention and group treatment protocols, and inspire innovation in the field of trauma treatment. These studies help clinicians deliver more effective care and bring hope to people struggling with the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, grief, addiction, and other life challenges.

The Foundation is sustained through annual gifts, memorial and tribute donations, and the dedicated donors of the Visionary Alliance monthly giving program. Every contribution — large or small — helps build the future of EMDR research.

Why Your Donations Are So Important!

Today’s donations determine tomorrow’s grants. Your generosity fuels the next generation of discoveries, supports researchers committed to advancing trauma treatment, and helps ensure that effective EMDR therapy continues to reach those who need it most.

When you give, you are not simply funding research. You are investing in healing, resilience, and the future of mental health care.

The Marcia Murray Memorial Fund:

Dedicated to Research in Suicide Prevention and Survivor Support

Suicide. Despite advances in mental health treatment, suicide rates continue to rise across all age groups. Nearly 50,000 people died by suicide in the United States in 2025, and more than 95,000 lives have already been lost globally in 2026. Behind every suicide are countless family members, friends, and communities left to cope with profound grief and unanswered questions.

"The Marcia Murray Memorial Fund was initiated in 2017 with a bequest from E.M. "Sandy" Murray as a way to memorialize his oldest daughter, Marcia, who died by suicide in 1979.  Additional EMDR research is needed to address both the healing to those left in the wake of suicide and how to prevent suicide by helping to move people from hopelessness to hope – rather than needing to choose to use the ultimate “escape hatch” in life.

EMDR Early Intervention (EEI) Fund

In today’s world, exposure to trauma is increasing at an alarming rate. Personal violence, political unrest, war, mass displacement, and natural disasters affect millions of people across the globe each year. The impact extends far beyond the individual, contributing to long-term emotional suffering, reduced productivity, disrupted education, strained healthcare systems, and cycles of violence and renewed trauma within communities.Established in 2018, the EMDR Early Intervention (EEI) Fund was created to advance critical research into the effectiveness of EMDR Early Intervention following traumatic events and crises.

The Carol York Memorial Fund

Traumatic events and early challenges can send a child into a downward spiral of development.  Effective interventions can alter that child’s developmental trajectory and positively impact the rest of their life.   With the formation and support of the Global Child EMDR Alliance in 2020, we are integrating the funds previously received in honor of Carol York (formerly the Carol York Memorial Fund) into the Hope for Children Fund. Contributions this Fund will directly support groundbreaking research using EMDR therapy with children and adolescents. The funds will prioritize studies that enhance the understanding and application of EMDR for young individuals facing trauma and stress.
